Tourism and Hospitality Management studies
Southern Cross University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management aims to be recognised as the leading Australian-based institution providing tourism and hospitality management education, research and service activities to the Asia-Pacific Region.
One of the School’s key goals is to help students acquire the business skills and knowledge to succeed within
the global tourism, hospitality, hotel and events related industries. The high graduate employment rate of students completing Southern Cross University degrees in Tourism and Hospitality Management is testament to the quality of our teaching and learning and the success of our internship program. Our degrees and the valuable experiences and attributes graduates gain provide an excellent foundation for careers in tourism, hotel and resort management and convention and event management.

Research and Industry Programs
Many SCU academics and research students are widely recognised for leading
edge research projects that impact industry and communities at a regional, national and international level.
The School is actively involved in each of the following initiatives to advance tourism-related education and research:
- The Hotel School Sydney is a unique partnership between Southern Cross University and Mulpha Australia. The Hotel School Sydney offers SCU’s Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management.
- In another education collaboration, the Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management offers a range of industry-relevant SCU tourism and hospitality management courses in Perth.
- The Centre for Tourism, Leisure and Work (CTLW) is an exciting new research centre of Southern Cross University. It incorporates research and extension in the areas of tourism, exercise science, leisure, and the economic drivers of work. The CLTW delivers leading expertise in the areas of planning, policy and management for tourism, sustainable settlements research, sport, leisure, and regional planning and development.
- The Centre for Gambling Education and Research pursues excellence through research and education relating to gambling, its operations, management, policy and impacts. Its research activities aim to inform and foster academic scholarship, responsible industry practices, responsive community services and considered policy-making.
There are currently 25 PhD students enrolled at SCU's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. They research a range of industry-relevant topics such as “Re-branding 'Destination Libya'”, “Sustainable development of Aboriginal-owned small to medium tourism enterprises”, “The impact of tourism on the society and culture of Small (island or enclave) communities” and “Is Venice the new Atlantis?”, an investigation of how to value cities as tourism heritage.
