Professor Margaret Deery
Professor Margaret Deery is Professor in Tourism and Events at Victoria University and is a Professorial Research Fellow with the Centre for Tourism and Services Research. She has lectured at postgraduate and undergraduate levels over the past 18 years and has been the Director of the Centre for Hospitality and Tourism Research at Victoria University and seconded to Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre (STCRC) as the Professorial Research Fellow for a number of years. Her past experience is in education and consultancy.
Professor Deery’s academic expertise is in the area of tourism labour markets with a focus on employee turnover and quality of life issues. She has also researched and published in the areas of volunteer management, event evaluation and the social impacts of tourism on communities. Most of her research has an industry focus with research projects at the local, national and international levels. She has attracted over $1 million in external funding, much of which was in collaboration with industry. She has published and co-authored three research books (one in print), 12 research book chapters, 3029 peer reviewed articles and 34 peer reviewed conference papers in national and international journals.
