Dr Perry Hobson - Director THE-ICE
Perry Hobson is the Director of the International Centre for Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE). He is also an Associate Professor in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Southern Cross University (SCU) - where he was the Head of School from 2000-2005. He holds a BSc. (Hons) Hotel & Catering Management from Oxford Brookes University (UK), a Masters in Hotel, Restaurant & Travel Administration, University of Massachusetts at Amherst (USA), and a PhD in Tourism from Southern Cross University (Australia).
Perry worked in the hospitality industry in the UK. He has held full-time academic positions with Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (USA), and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (SAR-China). Over the years he has held a visiting appointments and various institutions such as the Hotel Management School (CHN) in Leeuwarden (Holland), and he is currently a Visiting Professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Innsbruck (MCI), Austria.
He is the Editor-in Chief of the Journal of Vacation Marketing which is published in London (UK), and serves on the editorial boards of another seven international journals. He has recently been invited to become the co-Editor of the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Education which is published in Washington DC (USA). In 2005, Perry was recognised in the journal Tourism Management as being amongst the top 50 researchers in tourism and hospitality management over the previous two decades. He has been the recipient of awards of excellence for his research from the MCB University Press/Emerald in the UK, and from I-CHRIE (the International Association of Hospitality & Tourism Educators) in the USA.
Ms Pauline Tang - Director Business Development Pauline is the Director of Business Development at the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education a position she holds since the inception of the organisation in 2004.
She is a result driven senior executive with over 20 years experience and success in leading and launching start-up businesses, driving operational growth, maximising business opportunities, creating/promoting brand, managing projects, developing international relationships across a spectrum of industries (migration, investment property, education export, tourism and hospitality education accreditation and benchmarking etc to name of few).
Skilled as strategic leader in the development and implementation of business plans and strategic marketing campaigns, Pauline is an excellent communicator in the establishment and development of national and international relationships at all levels. An outcome-focused team player she has substantial track record in achieving outcomes within budget constraints and tight timelines in the competitive global market.
Originally from Hong Kong Pauline has lived in the USA, the Netherlands and Germany and has conducted business in Hong Kong and Germany prior to making Australia home. Fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and German, her academic qualifications included a Masters degree in Marketing Management (Excellence Award), Graduate Certificate in Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts with Distinctions in Sociology and Economics as well as a Diploma in Real Estate Practices.
Ms Jenny Smith - Finance Officer
Jenny is a small business owner and partner. She has a BA (Hons) degree and postgraduate business studies degree from the UK. Jenny has recently completed a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Accounting) and is currently undertaking an Advanced Diploma in Accounting part time through TAFE.
Jenny has a broad experience in different roles within small and large companies and currently has five local business of which she undertakes bookkeeping duties for.
Ms Julie Glass - Executive Project Officer
Julie joined THE-ICE in July 2006 and works with the team undertaking roles such as, THE-ICE web and print communication, conference coordination and finance management.
Coming from Southern Cross University as the Personal Assistant to the Head of School in the School of Tourism & Hospitality Management. Julie held this position for several years and brings to THE-ICE a broard range of Administrative skills and experience.
Julie also undertakes the Editorial Management for the Journal of Vacation Marketing, working closely with the publishers Sage Publications in London UK.
