Tourism, Hospitality and Events studies at TAFE NSW - Northern Sydney Institute (NSI) provide hands-on learning experiences within the bustling environment of Australia's most exciting city.

NSI offers the most extensive range of vocational Tourism, Hospitality and Events programs in Australia range from short workshops through to Advanced Diploma programs and pathways to university.
 
Training facilities across four colleges incorporate the Ryde College centre of excellence for hospitality studies, a purpose built facility with training kitchens, bakery, patisseries, restaurants, bars, cafes, banqueting facilities, gaming room, cellar, and rooms division facilities.   The Sydney Wine Academy offers sommelier and international wine programs, accredited by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust of the UK (WSET®).  The Sydney Coffee Academy offers a range of courses for budding baristas and cafe operators.

Students also have access to New South Wales' only Asian teaching kitchen at Crows Nest College, Northern Beaches College , just minutes away from Sydney’s best beaches, is a leader in Events and features the award winning Pittwater Restaurant.  Meadowbank College offers patisserie programs in Australia’s most modern pastry kitchen.

For students wishing to continue their studies beyond Diploma level, NSI has developed strong links with a number of Australia's universities.

NSI also delivers internationally recognised culinary, patisserie and kitchen management programs on behalf of Le Cordon Bleu International at its Ryde College. These programs align to Le Cordon Bleu international programs up to the Grande Diploma and Australian qualifications from Certificate I to Diploma.  From July 2010, bachelor degree programs will be offered.

NSI offers the Advanced Diploma in Tourism in Shanghai through the Shanghai Business School 

NSI has a strong commitment to sustainability and is the first TAFE institute to achieve ISO 14001:2004 certification for environmental practises.  Studies at NSI include participating in environmentally sustainable practices.

NSI is committed to providing job placement support during and after study. The institute's strong commercial ties and its status with many companies as a preferred training provider have created a strong industry demand for graduating students.

NSI cookery students are able to attend the World Cuisine Master Classes, delivered by renowned Sydney chefs and covering some of the most excting dishes from Europe, Asia, and the Americas.  The classes are extremely popular and offered once a month during study terms.
 
Research and Industry Programs
NSI is a strong supporter of professional development through participation in seminars, return to industry programs and the upgrading of staff qualifications.

Research programs at NSI are designed to anticipate and respond to changing educational needs within the Tourism and Hospitality Industry.

Recent research into the Australian coffee and café sector resulted in the development of the Sydney Coffee Academy. A suite of coffee courses now ensures a flow of competent skills back into the industry.
