The University of Applied Sciences HTW Chur






The University of Applied Sciences HTW Chur was founded in 1963. 1,600 students are currently studying there in various Bachelor and Master study programs. The HTW Chur is small in size but offers fine advantages. Classes are of manageable size, where students can contribute actively and learn efficiently. The adjunct institutes are actively involved in applied research and development to guarantee the knowledge and technology transfer to the economy.
 

The University of Applied Sciences HTW Chur works closely together with partners from the worlds of business and government. Consulting, regional services and applied research and development are the central functions of the Institute for Tourism and Leisure Research. The knowledge and innovation potential are transferred to commerce and industry and society, while suggestions and ideas from actual practice are brought into the university.
 
Academic Excellence
The Institute for Tourism and Leisure Research at the University of Applied Sciences (HTW) in Chur is generating new knowledge and activating existing knowledge. As a competence centre for applied research, the focus lies on customer management, product innovation, product management as well as destination management.  While the clients originate from various tourism industries and organisations the team members publish their research findings in scientific journals on a regular base.


Tourism Education Excellence

The University of Applied Sciences HTW Chur offers two outstanding tourism programs: the Bachelor of Science in Tourism and the Master of Science in Business Administration, Major Tourism

The Bachelor program is distinctive for its tight, target-oriented operation; a teaching and seminar style designed to focus on the students; and a clear, didactic structure. It is geared to educating the students for a career in tourism. The overriding aim is the development of leadership competences as well as management, specialist and methodological skills. Throughout the program the students are individually supervised and encouraged and enjoy the company of prestigious speaker and teaching staff from the fields of economics and tourism. In the final year, they have the opportunity of focusing on five elective in-depth specialist subjects.

The Master program focuses on promoting the implementation and decision-making skills of the students, preparing them for responsible positions in the professional world and/or for PhD studies. Special emphasis is on the development of products and services for tourism, as well as innovation and internationally-oriented destination management. Students will gain analytical and problem-solving skills through the practical projects and the Master?s thesis, which are commissioned by the tourism organisations.
